Alice Fitton - Sport Personalities

Alice Fitton
First Name Alice
Last Name Fitton
Category Pentathlete
Biography Alice took up the sport of Modern Pentathlon at the age of 10 years, having taken part in a biathlon with a friend from swimming. (At this time she had already achieved a high National Ranking as a swimmer). Having enjoyed the challenge of the Multi-Disciplinary nature of Pentathlon, Alice took up fencing and target shooting at local clubs, and quickly became recognised as the leading Pentathlete of her generation, gaining National Titles from Biathlon, (run/swim), to the full Pentathlon, (run/swim/fence/shoot and equestrianism). She has ridden horses competitively, since she was six.
In 2007, Alice was selected to represent Great Britain at The Copa Atlantico Trophy in Portugal, where, at the age of 12yrs, she would be competing against aspiring athletes from all over Europe in the under 15yrs category. Despite her years, she won the competition convincingly.

2008 saw Alice win National Championship Titles in Modern Biathlon, Tetrathlon and Pentathlon. (Injury prevented her competing in the Triathlon). In addition, she was selected to represent Great Britain in two prestigious European events. Firstly, she travelled to Czech Republic, where she captured Silver Medal in The European Cup, after which she competed in The European Championships in Portugal, where she achieved a creditable 5th place individually, once again in the under 15yrs category. 2008 was also the year that Alice achieved World Class Development Programme status, making her the youngest Pentathlete to do so by a significant margin.

In 2009, Alice achieved Bronze medal in the under 15yrs European Championships. However, this year also saw Alice competing Internationally, in the under 19yrs category. In The European Championships in Turkey, she took 9th place in the Individual competition, but won Silver medal in the Relay and Bronze in the Team event. She then travelled to Hungary to compete in the under 19yrs Olympic Hopes Competition, where she won Silver Medal in the Individual competition.

In 2010, 15 year old Alice has represented Great Britain in both International competitions so far, again at under 19yrs. Earlier in the year, she competed in The Bath International, in which she took Silver Medal, then in May, she travelled to Bulgaria for The European Championships, where she took 4th place individually and led the Team to Gold Medal in the Team Category. In this competition, Alice swam the fastest ever 200m Freestyle by a British Pentathlete, (of any age).
Alice has been selected to compete in The World Championships in June, for which she will travel to Sweden.

Throughout her sporting career to date, Alice has balanced a strenuous training schedule, (often in excess of 30 hours per week), with her schoolwork, as she prepares for her GCSEs. She could not have achieved the aforementioned success but for the support, flexibility and understanding of her school, St James CE School, Farnworth, and her individual coaches.

In addition to attending regular Training Camps with Pentathlon GB, Alice trains with Wigan Borough Elite Swim Team (Coach Les France), Sale Harriers Manchester and Salle-Kiss Fencing Club, where she received Specialist coaching in the respective disciplines.

Alice hopes to continue her development in the future, Olympic success being the focus of her aspiration.
