J Featherstone was a football referee and Treasurer from 1905 to 1927 and then Chairman until 1935. He was made an Honorary Life Member in 1937. He attended meetings up to being 100 years old whenever he could get transport and also went to a football match by walking downhill to his local ground. On the return journey he was taken home by car, either by the officiating referee or a member of the club. When interviewed by the Aural History Section of Bolton Library, he stated that he had been mugged in 1887, having his Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee Medal stolen. He also stated that every morning he washed from head to toe in cold water.
