Norman joined Bolton Referees Society as a 15 year old boy and rapidly progessed through the ranks to Class One and refereed at Football League level, the highlight of which was as linesman in the 1983 Milk Cup Final at Wembley between Liverpool and manchester United. Norman also ran the line at a European match in Poland. On his retirement, under the age limit rule, he attended Ecclesiastical College and became the Minister of the Albion United Reformed Church in Ashton-under-Lyne although he continued to serve the Bolton Referess Society as often as possible. He was awarded the Referees Association Meritorious Service Award for his work and achievements and the Bolton Referees Society awarded him an Honorary Life Member. |
