Biography	Mountain runner Fred set an astonishing record in the annual Washington Hill Race in 1962 at the age of 41, completing the 6,288 metre high course in under one hour and five minutes. It stood for 39 years, despite thousands of dollars being offered to anyone who could beat it. The former coalminer also represented Great Britain and won 43 of the 44 races he ran in the USA.
