Biography |
Ernie is a wheelchair athlete who has competed in three Paralympic Games and has over 1000 medals to his name. He competed in the shot put and discus competitions at the Paralympics in 1988 in Korea, in 1992 in Barcelona and in 1996 in Atlanta. In Korea he won the Gold medal for Great Britain in the shot put and set a new world record. At one time he was British, European and World record holder. He has also competed in basketball, javelin, table tennis, weightlifting and swimming. Ernie is still involved in coaching the shot put and discus. He is a graded field official and officiates at athletics meetings every week in the summer and every month in the winter. He was awarded an MBE in 2003. |
