Race walking was Renee’s greatest love and in 2003 at the age of 66 she became a world record holder at the 50km walk in the over 65 age group. In 2000 she was the world champion at 20km and in the same year was also European champion and runner-up in the 10km. In 2000 she walked 100 miles in less than a day - only the fourth female to achieve the feat. She joined Bolton United Harriers in 1964 and is a past president of the Club. Renee was also Secretary of the Greater Manchester Athletic Association and Chairman of the North of England Race Walking Committee.
