Charles Hallows was born in 1895 and played for Little Lever Cricket Club with his father and brothers before being invited to join Lancashire County Cricket Club in 1914. He rejoined Lancashire after the First World War in 1919. He scored over 1,000 runs in his first season with an average of 33.97. He continued to do well and two years later, he played for England against Australians at Old Trafford. He also scored 1,000 runs in the month of May to equal WG Grace’s record. He hit 54 centuries, his biggest was 233 against Hampshire in 1927. He also made over 1,000 runs per season on a dozen occasions. Charles must be one of the great sporting heroes of his time.
