Biography

Stewart has been a member of Horwich RMI Harriers for 36 years, since he joined the club in 1970 as a junior. He ran in numerous races in the 1970’s as a talented athlete. In 1980 he completed the Bolton Marathon and in 1981 he became a committee member. He has served on the committee for twenty five years, fourteen of which he was Chairman (second longest period of Chairmanship in the club’s history, longest since the Second World War). Stewart steered the club with great enthusiasm and leadership. He oversaw the club’s development during the most significant period in its history, with the opening of the new track at Bolton arena. For the past two years Stewart has been the club’s President.Over the year’s Stewart has helped to organise, and officiated at, numerous club events and has always looked to put something into the sport of athletics.
